Recommended Dosage
For patients with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) the recommended dosage of Kineret® is 100 mg per day.
Kineret® should be administered via subcutaneous injection at approximately the same time every
day.1 Only one dose (the contents of one prefilled
glass syringe) should be administered. Any unused portion should be discarded in accordance with
local and state laws for disposing of used needles and syringes.1
In clinical trials, increased dosage did not result in a significantly improved
response.1 However, an altered administration cycle of 100 mg
of Kineret® subcutaneously injected every other day (every 48 hours) should be considered for patients with
severe renal insufficiency or end-stage renal disease (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min).1
(see Pharmacokinetic Information).
Administration
Kineret® is provided in single-use prefilled glass syringes.
The needle cover is comprised of dry natural rubber (latex) and should not
be handled by persons with conditions that make them sensitive to this
material. Administration of Kineret® by patients or caregivers
should not be allowed until they have demonstrated a complete understanding
of and ability to perform the procedures necessary to properly
inject Kineret® subcutaneously.2
Do not use Kineret® beyond the expiration date.
The expiration date for each batch of Kineret® is shown on the carton.
The syringe that matches the current day of the week should be used. A new syringe should
be used every day.3

If a syringe is dropped, it should not be used, even
if there is no visible damage.5 If
the solution in a syringe appears discolored or contaminated,
or has been left at room temperature for longer than 24 hours, it should
not be used.6,7 The
suspect syringe should be properly disposed of and substituted
with the last syringe of the current week. When all remaining syringes
in the current box have been injected, the next box should be started.8
Depleted or damaged syringes and needles should be placed in a puncture-resistant container such as a Home Sharps
Container (a coffee can with a plastic lid or a hard plastic container with a screw-on top may be used).
The container must not be placed in household trash or recycled—it should be disposed of in accordance
with local and state laws regarding used needles and syringes.9
Syringe disposal containers can also be requested free of charge from the Kineret® Customer Call Center.
